This blogger’s tricks for making your hair less greasy between washes are genius
Washing, drying, heat-styling and maintaining hair is one of the biggest chores we face as women. Fact. You probably can’t even think about it without internally sighing, but now a beauty blogger has come up with ways that you can prolong the time between washes. Winning.
Chicago fashion guru, Jess Keys, recently shared her secrets on her blog The Golden Girl, and these simple tricks can prevent the dreaded grease-before-an-important-event scenario that we’ve all fallen victim to at some point.
Trick number one – Dry shampoo before bed
Dry shampoo is already our daily saviour but apparently, it has even more perks than we’ve already discovered.
Keys says: “Of course, you use it after [showering] to help soak up existing grease, but where dry shampoo truly shines is in its preventative effects – it’s great to spray on before you go to bed! You’ll wake up with more voluminous bedhead and it’s amazing.”
One of her personal favourites is Pret a Powder by Bumble and Bumble, but says there’s no ‘best one’ and it’s all down to your hair type and of course, personal preference.
Trick number two – Wearing a shower cap
Something so simple, yet most of us never bother with the oh so unattractive contraptions that are also known as shower caps. However, wearing a shower cap enables you to take a shower without the heat making your hair frizzy, says Keys.
“I don’t know why I just dismissed the idea of using a shower cap for the first 29-odd years of life. This really helps combat frizz, because even if my hair doesn’t get wet in the shower, it does get crazy from the steam.”
Smart when you think about it.
Trick number three – Only blow-dry your roots
Using less heat on your hair obviously works wonders in keeping it sleek and healthy in the long run, but only blow-drying your roots can make all the difference, according to the blogger.
“When you wash your hair, let your hair air dry as much as possible, but, if you hit the roots (just the roots, because, you know, hair dryer = damage) with the blow-dryer for a hot second and get your roots dry (we’re talking, like, just the top half-inch to inch of your hair) then it REALLY helps to combat grease. This really makes an incredible difference in setting your hair up to be less greasy.”
Cutting half an hour off our blow-drying time? We’re here for it.
These are tricks we’ll definitely be trying and cutting down on washes can have major health benefits for your hair- but don’t hold yourself to a crazy schedule. If you can’t make it look good, wash it!
