This Is the Low Key Beauty Look Our Editor Wants To Try

by Crystal-Andrews / Monday, 05 March 2018

Real beauty shines from the inside, out. So we’re partnering with Swisse, who are supporting your hair, skin and nail health, from the inside, with a range of beauty supplements, and skin health, from the outside, with natural skincare. It’s all about skin health and natural beauty.

If Instagram feeds are anything to go by — which, of course, they are — then there were only two, very distinct beauty looks at every Summer party: flawless, pore-less skin with a blinding cheekbone highlight vs. undone skin with a bright, festive lip. I am currently obsessed with the latter. I actually don’t remember the last time I was so excited about a makeup trend. For me, it’s the beauty trifecta: quick, simple and polished. A road test of the look last Friday night had me feeling as cool as an off-duty French model, and took approximately five minutes to create — a win by anyone’s standard.

The key to this look is getting the skin just right — you want a dewy, fresh base that allows a hint of your natural texture to peek through (so it’s probably worth tightening up your skincare regimen, too). During the day a lightweight BB cream or tinted moisturiser is perfect, while a sheer coverage foundation works for evening and dressier events. If you’re brave, ditch the base altogether and go bare-faced with only a few drops of a brightening serum massaged into the skin before applying your lip — I’m currently into Swisse’s Blood Orange Brightening Facial Serum ($29.99), with some potent antioxidants that really dial up your complexion. While I’m not quite there yet, it’s my goal to go sans-coverage a few times before Summer’s end.

When it comes to lip colours, the limit does not exist. Peach and coral tones are having a moment, wine stains are super chic, and red is eternal. While matte lips are very much on-trend — with formulas that are more hydrating than ever — a moisturising lipstick that glides on smoothly will feel more comfortable, even if you have to touch up once or twice. Don’t be afraid to colour outside the lines too, as a sightly blurred, smudged lip feels very now. Keep everything else minimal — just brushed up brows and a coat of mascara is all you need to be ‘done’.

Keep scrolling for some of my favourite takes on the chicest Summer beauty trend. Trust me, you’ll only need five minutes to recreate in front of the mirror before you’ll be ready to go.
