These Color-Changing, Full-Hand Swatches of Holographic Makeup Are Going Viral

Covering your entire arm in uniform stripes of colorful makeup is no longer the most impressive way show off swatches on Instagram. Viral indie cosmetics companies Chaos Makeup and Dawn Eyes Cosmetics just took swatching from about a level five to level 50. Both recently posted quick videos of a hand completely covered in a color-changing pigment.
Individually, Chaos Makeup and Dawn Eyes Cosmetics are known for creating mind-boggling makeup that shifts hues with the slightest movement or change of lighting. Chas Makeup took over Instagram with its secretly rainbow highlighter in 2017. Now, it’s gaining another round of fanfare with its whole-hand swatch, which teases a brand-new product that transforms from a golden green to a purple to blue depending on how the light hits it. (I dare you to play it just once — You’ll find yourself letting it loop over again because watching the colors change is that mesmerizing.) Chaos Makeup tells Allure that the color-morphing pigment is one of a full collection coming soon.
Dawn Eyes Cosmetics recently appeared on my radar with much more low-key swatches of its holographic pigments. (I finally got to try them out in March and can confirm they are just as stunning in real life.) The Internet beauty brand also posted a whole-hand swatch situation showing how its Mystical loose pigmentsimultaneously looks blue, pink, green, and purple. I’m not sure if I’m more amazed by the way its able to turn so many different colors or how Dawn Eyes Cosmetics was able to fully drench a hand in its pigments. It reminds me of the glittery man from this music video. Knowing that I don’t have to be the one to wash all that makeup off my hand makes it equally as satisfying.
Tarte even got in on hand-swatching this week, too. The shadows may not have the same color-changing quality, but I appreciate beauty brands showing off their iridescent and metallic makeup in this new, visually-stimulating way. Fingers crossed more do so soon because I forever need to be distracted from some kind of stress while scrolling through Instagram.
